Following graduation, he practiced in San Diego, California with the commercial litigation firm of Walton, Ottesen, Meads & Koler. He later joined San Diego's oldest law firm, Higgs, Fletcher & Mack, where his practice focused on commercial and business litigation, with an emphasis on employment law. In 1998, he accepted the position of General Counsel with Natural Balance, Inc., a Castle Rock, Colorado-based manufacturer and distributor of dietary and nutritional supplements. In his capacity as General Counsel, Mr. Kumpf was responsible for all of the company's legal affairs, including litigation, employment related matters, regulatory affairs and intellectual property issues. In May of 2004, Natural Balance, Inc. was acquired by Nutraceutical Corporation, a publicly-held company based in Park City, Utah. Mr. Kumpf joined Nutraceutical's legal department where he assumed responsibility for all of the company's litigation and employment related matters. He continued to be employed there until founding Kumpf, Charsley & Hansen LLC in 2006. Since moving to Castle Rock in 1998, Mr. Kumpf has been active in the community, serving on the Castle Rock 20/20 Vision Committee and on the Board of Directors for the Castle Rock Economic Development Council.  He is active in local units of the Boys Scouts of America and regularly coaches youth sports through the Castle Rock Recreation Department.
